Social cognition consists of the knowledge we have of the social world, which is manifested in the way we perceive and categorize it. This knowledge is general, gives rise to conceptual attributions and constitutes rather a starting point, adult knowledge. The starting point is the face-to-face interaction of the baby with its caregivers. In this unit we introduce the notion of second-person perspective to characterize the way in which entry into the social world occurs, and to describe the type of preconceptual attributions that mediate these interactions. The second person perspective is characterized by seeing the expressive movements of the body, and above all of the face, as expressive and to that extent communicative. Your direct perception allows you to respond quickly and give them psychological meaning, in a process of reciprocal contingency between the interactants that is immediately gratifying.
